food

Gloucestershire is famous for its fine food.  Community enterprises play a big part in getting local food to local people, from farmers markets in Gloucester, Stroud and Stow to local food co-operatives to joint marketing ventures among farmers.

A group of farmers is marketing rare breed Cotswold Lamb co-operatively to local restaurants and hotels.  Eight flock-owners have launched a bid to save the Cotswold Sheep led by farmer Iain Cockley-Adams He identified a major hotel chain which would buy Cotswold Lamb at significantly above the usual market price.  "There's definitely a commercial market out there, prepared to pay significantly more than the standard price for Cotswold lamb," he said.
